The FTD SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/HRSV assay is used for executing the detection of five respiratory viruses from one sample eluate, including SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A virus, Influenza B virus, and human Respiratory Syncytial Viruses A/B.
A new analysis verifies Siemens Healthineers PCR influenza assays to detect new H3N2 influenza strains displaying genetic drifts.
The influenza A assay contained in the FTD SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/HRSV Assay*, FTD Respiratory pathogens 21 Assay*, and FTD FLU/HRSV Assay* helps detect the new H3N2 strain displaying genetic drifts.
The FTD™ SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/HRSV Assay, for use on the VERSANT® kPCR Molecular System, is a semi-automated reverse-transcription real-time PCR assay for in-vitro qualitative detection and variation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2; ORF1ab and N genes), influenza B virus (IBV), influenza A virus (IAV), and human respiratory syncytial virus A and B (HRSV A/B) RNA in nasopharyngeal swab specimens in a viral transport medium acquired from individuals with symptoms and signs of respiratory infections.
The test helps diagnose SARS-CoV-2, IBV, IAV, and HRSV A/B in humans.
Clinical use
Respiratory testing
At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, the circulation of respiratory viruses altered considerably, and recent flu seasons have displayed atypical patterns compared to pre-pandemic times. The upcoming seasons are anticipated to return to normal with the co-circulation of respiratory viruses.
The epithelial cells of the respiratory tract have been targeted by SARS-CoV-2 and cause an infection that could result in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Influenza A and B are significant causes of seasonal respiratory infections in adults and children with a quick onset of fever.
HRSV is a significant cause of severe lower respiratory tract infections in children, immuno-compromised patients, and the aged. It is the primary viral cause of death in infants below one year of age.
The new RT-PCR FTD SARS-CoV-2/FluA/FluB/HRSV Assay from Siemens Healthineers detects such five comparative pathogens to fulfill users’ laboratory’s clinical and epidemiological (surveillance) requirements.
Emergent SARS-CoV-2 variants
Being part of the Global Surveillance Program, the FTD SARS-CoV-2 Assay and FTD SARS-CoV-2/FluA/ HRSV/FluB Assay have detected emergent SARS-CoV-2 variants.

Features and benefits
- Detection of SARS-CoV-2, Influenza B virus, Influenza A virus, and human Respiratory Syncytial Viruses A and B from the similar sample eluate
- Differentiation happening between SARS-CoV-2, FluA, FluB, and HRSV A/B
- Developed with the same high SARS-CoV-2 sensitivity as the FTD SARS-CoV-2 Assay (targets conserved regions within ORF1ab and N gene)
- Mid- to high-throughput semi-automated solution to control seasonal respiratory testing in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond
