INC Research®, Inc., a therapeutically focused contract research organization (CRO) with a process for delivering reliable results, is pleased to announce that Trusted Process® thought leaders at INC Research were named winners at the 2009 Clinical Research Excellence Awards in London on October 20.

Dr. Silvia Zieher, senior director, head of clinical operations, Latin America, was named the Clinical Research Professional of the Year. INC Research’s BIG Cardio Team that completed a large, seven-year cardiovascular study achieved a Highly Commended for Clinical Research Team of the Year – one of only two such citations during the evening.

“Individual clinical research professionals play a key role in the successful implementation and completion of any trial. Dr. Zieher contributed to improving practice not only within her company, but in the wider research community too. Dr. Zieher was recognised by the judging panel for campaigning tirelessly to raise good clinical research standards in her field. This was evident through her involvement in promoting the capabilities of her home country as a new clinical hub; and raising GCP standards in the region,” said Joanne Payne, editor of GCPj.

The judging panel also acknowledged the BIG Cardio Team’s success in meeting challenging timelines in the closure process of a large global outcome trial, and awarded them with a Highly Commended honor. The landmark trial involved a total of 298 sites in 16 countries, with nearly 10,000 randomized patients retained in the study until its completion in early 2009. The study duration of this complex, global trial is seven years across 16 countries.

“It gives me great pleasure to see Dr. Zieher and our BIG Cardio Team recognized as top performers from among such an impressive array of accomplished finalists. Dr. Zieher and our international cardio team are well deserving of this recognition,” said James Ogle, CEO of INC Research. “We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of these INC Research leaders. These honors underscore the passion and dedication to excellence that our teams and leaders achieve every day.”
