Virtual Radiologic Corporation (NASDAQ:VRAD), a leading global provider
of teleradiology services and technology solutions, has completed the
deployment of vRad® PACS, its proprietary picture communications and
archiving system for radiologic case processing. Replacing previously
used commercial software, vRad PACS is now being used by all of the
Company’s 140 affiliated radiologists to perform clinical
interpretations on radiologic cases transmitted in real-time from over
7,400 different image sending devices located at more than 1,150 medical
facilities across the United States.
“vRad PACS was specifically engineered for our technology-enabled
radiology practice,” said Rick Jennings, chief technology officer of
Virtual Radiologic. “We utilized key design insight from our affiliated
radiologists and combined it with highly secure, scalable and
performance-oriented Internet technologies to develop vRad PACS.
Further, we used the more than 700,000 studies processed in vRad PACS
over the last few months to continuously optimize the software. The
result is a more efficient technology platform for our current clinical
and business processes, and also highly agile for future needs.”
Because vRad PACS is Internet-based, Virtual Radiologic was able to
deploy the software system in real-time with no service interruptions
into one of the highest volume practices in the United States (more than
2.6 million interpretations annually). Virtual Radiologic will be
including vRad PACS technology in an upcoming release of the Company’s
software as a service technology offering, vRad® Enterprise Connect. A
direct extension of Virtual Radiologic’s market-leading proprietary
teleradiology technology platform, vRad Enterprise Connect helps
radiology practices grow their own business and better serve hospitals
by connecting existing but disparate RIS/PACS without additional
infrastructure investment.
vRad PACS and vRad Enterprise Connect are both examples of the Company’s
progressive use of technology to improve productivity and provide
clients with industry-leading products and services. Virtual Radiologic
was recently ranked top teleradiology services provider for the second
consecutive year by KLAS, a leading independent research firm focused on
the health care industry, in its 2009 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards:
Software & Professional Service.
