You may have heard of "Super Moms" or even "Mr. Moms," but are you
familiar with the growing group of "Power Moms?" They're a tech-savvy,
multi-tasking demographic of women and they're changing the way
businesses communicate – one social media site at a time.
“Today's parents, especially moms, are more connected than ever and
they're turning to technology to keep up with the various aspects of
their lives”
For example, take The Little Gym, a franchise-system of childhood
development centers that offers curriculum-based gymnastics and other
programs for children ages four months to twelve years. The company
recently launched ChildrensSuccess.com to provide parents with a forum
for sharing success stories, questions and laughs about their child with
friends and family members.
"Today's parents, especially moms, are more connected than ever and
they're turning to technology to keep up with the various aspects of
their lives," said Paul Dickison of The Little Gym International. "We
recognized that in order to keep our brand in the forefront of their
minds, we needed to provide them a community on the Internet, which is
where they're spending an increasing amount of their time."
According to a recent report by Nielsen, moms between the ages of 25 to
54 who have at least one child under the age of 18 within the home
represent roughly 19 percent of the total online population.
Additionally, mothers aged 25 to 35 years old with at least one child at
home are 85 percent more likely to spend time with Facebook.
The report also adds that "Mom Bloggers," who are documenting the
excitement and challenges of motherhood via online communities, are an
increasingly critical subset of this group of Power Moms. These
individuals interact with one another and bond over shared experiences,
although most members of the group have never physically met.
On ChildrensSuccess.com, parents are encouraged to share special
milestones, questions or even funny moments about their children by
posting stories, pictures and videos. According to Dickison, the
over-arching goal of the site is to focus on children's success.
