Working with the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH), NEC Corporation of America (NEC), a leading integrator and provider of advanced communications and technology solutions, today announced that it has extended the communications infrastructure built on NEC’s UNIVERGE® communications servers by implementing the nation’s first Cisco Nurse Connect solution.

Considered the leading academic medical center in the Rocky Mountain region, UCH is committed to patient care through the implementation of cutting edge healthcare technology, including unified clinical communications.

“Instead of being at the nurses’ station, our caregivers are on their preferred devices, in-building wireless IP phones, responding to a patient need, even as they are on the way to the patient’s room.”

NEC’s customized deployment of advanced communications technology is designed to allow nurses and other clinical staff to reduce human latency, improve response times and spend more time with patients through the deployment of “skills based routing” tools, and mobility enabled solutions on top of UCH’s existing communications infrastructure.

“Hands-on time with patients leads to faster recovery and better relationships with family members who will be taking over care once the patient is discharged,” said Joe Bajek, chief technology officer, University of Colorado Hospital. “Instead of being at the nurses’ station, our caregivers are on their preferred devices, in-building wireless IP phones, responding to a patient need, even as they are on the way to the patient’s room.”

NEC, a Cisco Gold partner, provides communications solutions for healthcare customers around the world by working with IT, clinical staff and support personnel to design, build, implement and manage a technology driven solution which exactly meets the needs of the healthcare community.

“With the commitment of UCH, our experience in clinical environments, and knowledge of healthcare business processes, we were able to translate their business needs into an integrated solution from NEC and our partner Cisco. Working with UCH, we were able to design and implement healthcare solutions that help connect their care teams, advance clinical workflow, and most importantly, improve the overall experience of UCH patients,” said Lance Mehaffey, Director, Healthcare Markets for NEC.
