6 Day Dental and Orthodontics improves access to oral health care

6 Day Dental and Orthodontics now accepts Medicaid and CHIP at all five 6 Day locations – in Allen, Coppell, Frisco/Plano, Flower Mound and Roanoke/Keller. With the number of dentists accepting Medicaid and CHIP declining, 6 Day's new Medicaid and CHIP status goes a long way to improve access to oral health care for families and their children, especially as tooth decay in children increases, according to recent studies.

"It makes sense for 6 Day to accept Medicaid so we are even more accessible for all the families who need our help," said Dr. John Bond, founder of 6 Day. "There are far too few Medicaid dental providers and many of our pediatric patients have medical issues requiring highly specialized dentistry. With our new Medicaid status, we can provide appropriate care to children and parents alike – everyone who needs it, and patients can be seen today or tomorrow."

Dental problems in children are widespread. "Oral Health in America: A Report of the Surgeon General," the first surgeon general report on oral health, found tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease; over half of children from five to nine years old have at least one cavity or filling, and by age 17, nearly 80 percent of people have had a cavity.

"Of course, this is mostly preventable," said Dr. Bond. "Parents need to understand this so they plan for check-ups for their children and themselves. Medicaid and CHIP cover most dental services either in part or in full."
