Dr. David Blende of San Francisco was recognized for his many years of service to the Special Care Dentistry Association (SCDA) when the organization presented Dr. Blende with their Presidential Award. The Awards Ceremony took place Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the SCDA's annual national meeting at the Swissotel in Chicago.

Through his practice, the Blende Dental Group, Dr. Blende and his team provide compassionate dental care to special needs patients, often in their own homes.

The SCDA provides educational opportunities and an information exchange for oral health care professionals who treat patients with special needs. The organization works as a focal point for dentists and health care groups with a common interest in improving oral health for the frequently under-served special needs population.

"The Presidential Award was created to recognize people who have shown outstanding support to our organization and who are fighting the good fight by serving the special needs community in their local areas," says Judith K. Messura, D.M.D., Associate Professor of Dentistry at Wake Forest University and immediate past SCDA president. "Dr. Blende has been doing both for many years. He takes great care of his patients, of course, he continues to support our national organization and he's an exhibitor at all our meetings. That type of contribution, not only on a patient level but on an organizational level, warranted recognition."

Dr. Blende considers participation in the SCDA to be both a pleasure and a matter of professional necessity.

"The organization does great work bringing the latest information to all of us active in Special Needs Dentistry," Dr. Blende says. "They provide an invaluable venue for us all to share ideas and best practices, and they help us get the word out about the importance of oral health for everyone. Naturally, I'd want to take part however I can. To be recognized nationally by this great organization with a Presidential Award is a great honor."
