Progressive Medical updates 2010 Drug Spend Analysis

Progressive Medical, Inc. (http://www.progressive-medical.com) announced today the release of a mid-year update to its 2010 Drug Spend Analysis. This report, which supplements the report released in April, provides clients with an update in workers' compensation medication spending from January 2010 through June 2010 and key factors that affect future expenditures, including inflation, utilization and product mix.

Key highlights from the mid-year 2010 Drug Spend Analysis include:

  • Average wholesale price inflation increased drug spending by 3.4%; however Progressive Medical clients experienced a 1.9% reduction in drug spending per injured party.
  • An average injured party is on course to use 3.7% fewer days of medication supply in 2010 than in 2009.
  • There has been an increase in generic dispensing which benefits payors. Progressive Medical continues to monitor newer, more expensive brand name drugs.
