People with heart health issues and little or no insurance can still get the preventive and maintenance care they need, by finding local no- and low-cost healthcare resources on Californians for Patient Care's MyHealthResource. The online tool, the only one of its kind in California, is free and confidential.

"February is American Heart Month and it's an excellent time for everyone to remember how important heart health is," said Carmella Gutierrez, president of Californians for Patient Care. "According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. But sadly, people without health insurance or without adequate health insurance sometimes think that the care they desperately need is too expensive for them. We want all Californians to know that, regardless of whether or not they have insurance, there is a network of local healthcare providers ready and able to give you the care you need. Californians for Patient Care is here to help you find those providers."

People can access the MyHealthResource guide by clicking on the blue button at www.calpatientcare.org. After typing in basic search information such as city or county and category of resource, Californians can find a comprehensive list of local healthcare providers that provide primary, dental and mental healthcare services to the uninsured and underinsured.

Along with information on local healthcare service providers, Californians for Patient Care also provides information on chronic disease management, how to shop for health insurance, information on new research studies and links to helpful organizations and websites.

"American Heart Month is a terrific reminder for people to show themselves a little love," said Gutierrez. "We encourage all Californians, but especially those with heart health conditions, to get the care they need now, so that they - and their families - can avoid the potential pain and cost of an unnecessary health crisis."
