Loyola University Health System (LUHS) will celebrate Nurses Week from May 7- 11. The theme for the week, "Healthy Nurses, Healthy Teams, Healthy Patients," celebrates all that nurses do to improve the health of their patients and the community.

"Loyola also will dedicate this week to promoting healthy living among nurses," said Linda Nicol, RN, BSN, MBA, chair, Nurses Week Committee, LUHS. "The organization realizes that to be most effective for our patients, nurses and teams of health-care professionals must make their own health a priority."

Several wellness events will take place during the week including:

-Wellness fairs, which will have representatives from across the health system with information about various aspects of health and wellness;
-Yoga demonstrations;
-Chair massages;
-Cancer screenings;
-Free exercise passes to the Loyola Center for Fitness;
-Art displays that represent the creativity of Loyola nurses;
-And a special Mass where chaplains bless and anoint nurses' hands with oil

Nurses also will have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for wellness-themed baskets. Proceeds will go toward renovating Loyola's neonatal intensive care unit and supplies for making handmade blankets for patients.

A Nursing Excellence Awards Ceremony will honor top Loyola nurses during the week. The event also will recognize nurses who are board certified and those who have achieved clinical ladder levels three and four, demonstrating professional growth and development. This event will take place from 4:30- 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, in Tobin Hall of the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (SSOM). A reception will follow.
