forMD, an innovative provider of specialty physician communities, has launched a private online community for alumni of Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), one of the nation's leading orthopedic hospitals. The forMD social networking platform is a virtual venue where alumni can connect, keep in touch with fellow professionals, stay updated on important events and continuing medical education, and share cases and discussions.

forMD is a cutting-edge health technology company that manages online communities for nearly 50 organizations, including residency alumni associations at some of the country's top medical schools. Duke University, Stanford University and University of Pennsylvania are among forMD's clients. "Hospital for Special Surgery's Alumni Association is a resource for its global alumni after the completion of their residency or fellowship," said Daniel Rich, MD, president-emeritus of the HSS Alumni Association. "With alumni in 33 foreign countries and 47 US states, connecting and collaborating across time zones can be a challenge without the proper technology solution. Through the forMD online community, HSS will advance its digital capabilities and provide educational resources, strengthen relationships, and facilitate exchange between its faculty, residents, fellows and alumni."

"We're very excited about the launch of our alumni community," said Laura Robbins, DSW, senior vice-president, Education & Academic Affairs at Hospital for Special Surgery. "The forMD platform enables our alumni to continue to benefit from one of our organization's most valuable assets - the collective expertise of our members."

"The residency and fellowship program where physicians train is a critical resource that has traditionally been difficult for them to access and leverage after graduation," explained Greg Chang, chief executive officer of forMD and a former administrator at Duke University Medical Center. "Through the forMD solution, we enable more frequent and meaningful interactions between physicians. We are proud to be partnering with Hospital for Special Surgery to help their alumni build a stronger community and benefit from the expertise of their colleagues to solve professional challenges more quickly."

As a leader in the physician community space, forMD enables physicians to access a horizontally and vertically integrated platform. On one side, invited, verified physician users can access communications from the various professional societies and associations of which they are a member. On the other, they can connect with their colleagues by specialty and subspecialty to exchange with their peers and learn from subject matter experts.
