PhysioMimix® Dual-Organ Plate for organ-to-organ crosstalk investigation

Examine crosstalk between different organs with the PhysioMimix Multi-chip Dual-organ plate.

It is possible to build six multi-organ systems in vitro with each PhysioMimix Dual-organ plate. Two separately cultivated organs that interact through inter-organ fluidic flow make-up each system.

Using a Transwell® insert, six separately grown biological barrier models (such as Lung- or Gut-on-a-chip) are created by cultivating primary human cells on both the apical and basolateral sides.

The liver compartment produces six liver-on-a-chip models, each comprising primary human liver cells cocultured in three dimensions utilizing an engineered scaffold. Communication between the two models is facilitated via an interconnected pneumatic pump.

Dual-organ models offer a human-relevant means to complement and circumvent the limitations of current in vitro and in vivo approaches by simulating human systems. The insights generated enable researchers to confidently progress only the most promising drug candidates into animal studies, supporting reductions in the number of animals required and their associated costs.

The plates are compatible with:

  • Primary cells
  • Induced-pluripotent stem cells
  • Immortalized cell lines
  • Circulating immune cells
  • Precision-cut tissue slices
  • Organoids

They are intended for use with the PhysioMimix Multi-organ System and can be used for various applications.
