Romanian surgeon at Bucharest's Court of Law

Published on July 19, 2004 at 11:42 AM · No Comments

The Romanian surgeon who severed a patients penis, chopping it into three pieces, appeared at Bucharest's Court of Law today. He was accused of second degree serious bodily injury and medical malpractice.

The court stated that Naum Ciomu a senior member of the hospital staff and a professor of anatomy "defectively exercised his duty" during surgery he had performed in June, on the patient I.J, aged 34. The man was being operated on for a testicular malformation when the act was committed.

Three medics testified against Ciomu as witnesses to the event. A decision is expected later next week.
