GPs across England will share a new £108 million improvement pot

Millions of pounds will be made available to upgrade GPs' surgeries, the British government announced yesterday.

GPs across England will share a new £108 million 'improvement pot' under the plans. The funding could be used to create more space for trainee GPs in existing surgeries or buying land for future development.

Health Minister John Hutton said the extra money would mean that more GP premises could be improved more quickly.

"It will help create a better environment in which millions of NHS patients can be treated," he said.

"It will also make a big contribution towards ensuring our family doctors and their staff enjoy better working conditions."

The investment is being made available in addition to the £1.19bn already being invested in primary care premises over the next two years.
