A lecture to mark the 25th anniversary of the Wisdom Hospice in Rochester is taking place at the University of Kent's Medway campus on Monday, 5 October.
Nigel Hartley, Director of Supportive Care at St Christopher's Hospice in Sydenham, London, will be delivering the lecture, which will take place at the University's Pilkington Building at 6pm. The eveant is free and open to all, and a brief question and answer session, plus refreshments, will follow the main lecture. e
Entitled Hospices without walls? Breaking barriers and the final taboo, the lecture has been jointly arranged between the Wisdom Hospice and the Division of Palliative Care within the University of Kent's Centre for Professional Practice (CPP).
Dr David Oliver, Honorary Senior Lecturer for the CPP, and Consultant in Palliative Medicine for the Wisdom Hospice, said the event presented an opportunity for people from all walks of life to hear about how the hospice could be more involved in the community, especially with schools. 'It's a chance not only to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Wisdom Hospice, but to see how we all can work even more closely with our community in Medway and Swale in the coming years,' he said.
'St Christopher's Hospice has developed a project with local schools, involving young people in the work of the hospice. This has raised general awareness about its role in the community and the scope of its activities. We hope we will be able to follow their example in Medway and develop new projects with our own schools.'
