U.S. Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to participate in a vaccination exercise on the anniversary of 9/11

On the anniversary of 9/11, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and Assistant Secretary for Health Howard Koh will honor the members of the Medical Reserve Corps and participate in a vaccination exercise in Alexandria, Va., on Friday, September 11, 2009.

Sebelius and Koh, along with local officials, will take a brief tour of the mass vaccination exercise, coordinated by the Alexandria Health Department and Alexandria Medical Reserve Corps. At the event, Sebelius and Koh will receive a seasonal flu vaccination. A media availability will follow.

Founded in 2002, the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) are community-based units who donate their time and expertise to prepare for and respond to emergencies as well as promote healthy living throughout the year. The MRCs work toward improving the health and safety of communities across the country by organizing and utilizing public health, medical and other volunteers. MRC is a partner program with Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to ensure hometown security.
