The HITECH Act was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th, 2009, as part of the larger stimulus package known as the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The Act includes up to $44,000 total in Medicare payment incentives per eligible provider who demonstrates “meaningful use” of an EHR starting in 2011.
