NPIN Pivotal Information Resource in Fight to Curb Spread of Infectious Diseases

Danya International, Inc. (Danya), a communications, research, and technology firm, has been awarded a contract to continue its performance in operating the National Prevention Information Network (NPIN) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). NPIN provides the latest information, resources, and technology focused on preventing HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, STDs, and tuberculosis.

"Being on the team that is working to reduce the rate of new HIV infections and the spread of other infectious diseases is a top priority at Danya," explained Dr. Jeffrey Hoffman, Chief Executive Officer of Danya. "We are gratified that our commitment and excellent past performance has been rewarded with the opportunity to continue supporting the objectives of the CDC and NPIN while building upon our prior successes to expand the program's powerful influence and effectiveness."

NPIN is a comprehensive Web-based source of information and resources developed by the CDC National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). Services and products available through NPIN serve to support prevention partners, stakeholders, and other constituents. Among NPIN's core objectives are providing timely information and resources to prevention partners through innovative approaches to knowledge/information transfer; connecting partners in public health through collaborative communications; managing reference and referral services via the Internet, online databases, and onsite resource center; and exploiting technology innovations to enhance the engagement of prevention partners and stakeholders to maximize the health impact.

In proposing implementation of the next generation of NPIN, Danya advanced a communications model that takes advantage of the changes in dissemination of information, the growing number of information sources, and continually evolving technology. Danya's broad-based concept updates NPIN and increases the interactive relationships with the CDC, NPIN partners, and the public by tailoring the network for diverse audiences using multichannel communications strategies. As part of the strategy plan for building an even more effective NPIN, Danya expanded its proven team with a number of best-in-class companies with specialized expertise. This team will provide flexible, scalable, full-capacity services covering a wide range of areas, including:

  1. Networking - operating and maintaining the CDC NPIN Web site at www.cdcnpin.org; connecting NCHHSTP stakeholders and partners with interactive features; managing electronic mailing lists; providing webcasting capabilities; and developing, analyzing, and maintaining new and existing databases.
  2. Education - developing, updating, and maintaining the NPIN inventory; managing the electronic distribution system; and creating new products promoting use of CDC prevention resources.
  3. Mobilization - designing and implementing a marketing and outreach plan to increase awareness and promote NPIN services; facilitating and supporting partner engagement events; communications support and technical assistance for national observances and other special events; and contributing to the NCHHSTP Director's communications tools, including the Connections e-newsletter and the annual report.
  4. Capacity Building - establishing and operating reference and referral services for access to NPIN information via channels including the Web site, telephone lines, mail/facsimile, Spanish-language and hearing-impaired services, and the resource center; delivering in-person and Web-based training and technical assistance.
  5. System Monitoring - monitoring, evaluating and tracking implementation of program services; planning and implementing program enhancements.
  6. Knowledge into Action - scanning for best practices and new developments; planning and implementing program enhancements.
