UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:UNH) company, has been named the “Best Health Plan Provider” by the readers of Business Insurance in the magazine’s fifth annual Readers Choice Awards.

The Business Insurance Readers Choice Awards invite the publication’s readers to vote for the insurance companies they believe offer the best overall combination of quality, value, service and innovation. With a readership focused on business executives who are responsible for the purchase and administration of employee benefits and other insurance-related programs, individuals have selected UnitedHealthcare the best health plan provider four of the five years since the awards were created in 2005.

“UnitedHealthcare has been a company to watch for years, showing leadership in various facets of health care from technology to becoming an early adopter of consumer-directed health plan options,” said Business Insurance Editor Regis Coccia. “The fact that our readers selected UnitedHealthcare as the best health plan provider for four of the past five years is a strong indication that the company is achieving consistent high performance in serving customers.”

This year, the Readers Choice Awards comprised 18 categories, reflecting key partners and service providers for risk managers, benefit managers and insurance organizations. Profiles of the winners appeared in the Nov. 16 issue of Business Insurance magazine and online at www.BusinessInsurance.com. Business Insurance created the awards to offer readers an opportunity to weigh in on the performance and quality of the commercial insurance industry.

“UnitedHealthcare is thrilled to receive a Readers Choice Award that recognizes us as a leader in customer service, innovation, quality and value,” said Austin Pittman, UnitedHealthcare’s chief growth officer. “This award reflects the hard work we’ve invested in enhancing our service and designing cost-effective health plan options as we continue to seek opportunities to modernize the health care system and help people live healthier lives.”
