Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) has selected Sprint (NYSE: S) as its wireless communications provider of choice at its new, state-of-the-art facility near Las Vegas. This is the first Sprint in-building coverage and capacity agreement involving a large healthcare institution in the Las Vegas market.

The Sprint solution will provide coverage enhancement for hundreds of IT, security, facilities, administrative and executive staff who use Nextel Direct Connect, mobile broadband air cards, phones, and PDA devices to deliver care. Clinicians, patients and visitors, whose service is powered by Sprint’s Now Network, will also enjoy seamless wireless coverage to communicate, update and access time-critical information within NVCI buildings.

“Our research indicated that Sprint was the provider of choice for many casinos, enterprise companies and not-for-profits in the Las Vegas area,” said JoAnne Ruh, CIO, Nevada Cancer Institute. “Sprint’s comprehensive wireless portfolio, including Land Mobile Radio (LMR) replacement and Nextel Direct Connect, plus its industry leading business care aided in our decision to team with them.”

NVCI is the official cancer institute for Nevada. The non-profit institute reduces the burden of cancer by pursuing the development of a comprehensive cancer research center, as defined by the National Cancer Institute. Through the knowledge and expertise of the finest scientists, clinicians, educators and caregivers, NVCI offers hope to communities in Nevada, southwestern states and beyond through research, education, early detection, prevention and high quality patient care.

“Sprint is extremely pleased to help make Nevada Cancer Institute more productive in the very important work they do to reduce cancer,” said Tim Donahue, vice president of industry solutions at Sprint. “Wireless connectivity is imperative for hospitals and healthcare facilities. The Sprint solution gives NVCI unprecedented access to much-needed in-building capacity and broader campus-wide convergence solutions.”

Sprint, named most reliable 3G network in a 13-city test by PC World, serves healthcare facilities through its newly formed Business Markets Group (BMG). Composed of sales, support, marketing and operations employees, Sprint’s BMG is dedicated solely to enterprise, general business and public sector customers. BMG delivers wireless, wireline and converged solutions for companies, drawing on the nation’s most dependable 3G mobile broadband network, 4G capabilities that are well ahead of Sprint’s competition, the fastest national push-to-talk network, and a comprehensive solutions portfolio of devices and applications.

Las Vegas is one of the first communities to enjoy 4G wireless connections from Sprint, the first national wireless carrier to test, launch and market 4G technology. Sprint 4G delivers download speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.
