Phytel, the leader in empowering physicians to drive health improvement through technology, announced today that The Iowa Clinic, a large multispecialty group based in Des Moines, has agreed to implement Phytel’s Proactive Patient Outreach solution to make sure that all of its patients receive appropriate preventive and chronic disease care.

“Phytel will enhance our ability to deliver superior medical care by using the various technologies we’re putting in place within our organization,” C. Edward Brown, CEO of The Iowa Clinic, commented. “By using Phytel to maintain contact automatically with patients between visits, our providers will have greater assurance of meeting clinical standards of care and all of our patients’ needs. In addition, we anticipate a return on investment because of the additional volume that Phytel will generate around recommended services. So our arrangement with Phytel will not only enhance the quality of care, but is also a good business decision.”

About 120 physicians practice in The Iowa Clinic’s three main locations, and many of its specialists rotate through outreach clinics in 30 communities across the state. The first departments to use Phytel’s solution, when the clinic launches it in the near future, will be Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and OB/GYN, comprising a total of 37 physicians and nine mid-level practitioners. The Iowa Clinic, which also has an electronic health record, will feed Phytel’s population health registry with billing data showing which patients have received particular services, along with the dates of service. Then, following evidence-based clinical protocols that use nationally recognized standards, the web-based registry will trigger phone messaging to patients who are due to visit their doctor for follow up care.

Steve Schelhammer, CEO of Phytel, said, “The well-respected Iowa Clinic is one of the many leading physician organizations that have recognized the contribution that Phytel can make to both their quality of care and population health outcomes. We welcome The Iowa Clinic to our rapidly growing client roster with the confidence that we can help make a difference in the health of their community.”
