Springer has just signed an agreement with the British Society for Research on Ageing (BSRA) to enter into an affiliation with the journal Biogerontology for an initial period of three years. The society will appoint one member of the Biogerontology editorial board and will acquire articles for one themed issue annually. Springer will sponsor the society and provide society members with free electronic access to Biogerontology on www.springerlink.com.

Biogerontology offers a platform for research which aims primarily at achieving healthy old age accompanied by improved longevity. The focus is on efforts to understand, prevent, cure or minimize age-related impairments. Biogerontology publishes original research reports, reviews, hypotheses, new methods, interviews and special issues on topics relating to ageing, health and longevity. Editor-in-Chief is Suresh I.S. Rattan of the University of Aarhus in Denmark.

Max Haring, Publishing Editor in Biomedicine at Springer, said, "I believe this association will bring Biogerontology to the attention of an even larger community of scientists working on ageing and gerontology. The themed issues will be valuable additions to the excellent research already published in this journal."

BSRA Chairman Prof. Richard Faragher said, "We are delighted at the opportunity to affiliate our society with both Biogerontology and with Springer. We considered other options but nowhere else could we find such a combination of professionalism, friendliness and genuine enthusiasm for the work of our society. For our part, we at the BSRA will do our utmost to make Biogerontology THE journal to read for those interested in the biology of ageing."
