Cermetek Microelectronics, Inc. today announced the CH24606 modem module. The CH24606, a V.22bis modem module (2400 bits per second), is the first Cermetek modem designed to comply with UL 60601-1 requirements for medical equipment safety. Cermetek has targeted the CH24606 as a low-cost communications solution for medical monitoring equipment. The CH24606 sells for less than $15 in 1000 piece quantities.
Aside from its low price, the CH24606 provides substantial savings throughout the product life cycle. During the customer's design phase, use of the CH24606 offloads all modem design responsibilities, freeing engineering resources. When ready for production, the conveyed approvals, including FCC Part 68, simplify regulatory compliance and speed time to market. Once in production, delivery of a fully tested modem eliminates potential quality control issues caused by assembly errors or component issues.
"Medical equipment manufacturers have approached Cermetek in recent years with the requirement for low-cost UL 60601-1 compliant modem modules. The best Cermetek could offer was a modestly priced custom solution," stated Cermetek President Henry Roskos. "Introduction of the CH24606 makes a standard product available to medical equipment suppliers at a low cost without the development delays or volume restrictions of a custom product."
The CH24606 is now available for evaluation and prototype design. The CH24606 data sheet is available online at http://www.cermetek.com.
