Congressman Chaka Fattah comments on the Massachusetts election results

Pennsylvania Congressman calls it 'morally and intellectually dishonest' to argue that yesterday's election in Massachusetts should trump the 50-state results of 2008

Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA) issues the following statement on the Massachusetts election:

"We as Democrats respect the results of yesterday's special election in one state, Massachusetts, and will shortly welcome Senator-elect Scott Brown to Washington. In the same spirit I call upon our Republican colleagues to respect the results of the 50-state election that led to the inauguration, just one year ago today, of President Barack Obama. That 50-state election of 2008 produced overwhelming majorities in both houses of Congress for the Obama program of progress, dignity and equity, especially in his advocacy for comprehensive healthcare reform.

"It is morally and intellectually dishonest to argue for respect of a single state election while ignoring the voice of more than 69 million voters -- the greatest turnout for a single candidate in the nation's history. This national mandate remains as we begin Year Two of the Obama Administration and it trumps any single state election. That mandate deserves, and demands, the respect of all Americans, especially members of Congress as we continue to advance the President's agenda and push ahead for healthcare reform."
