SIS RBC solution meets the stringent standards of Peer Review program

For the third consecutive year, the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) performed a rigorous assessment of SIS Rules-Based Charging (RBC), an automated charge capture solution by Surgical Information Systems, and determined that it meets the stringent standards of the Peer Review program in the areas of effectiveness, quality and usability, price, value, and customer and technical support.

The Peer Review emblem of excellence is given to products that provide a proven ROI and are backed by superior customer service and technical support.  SIS achieved Peer Review status renewal after an extensive, voluntary HFMA evaluation involving 11 comprehensive steps that result in the denial of nearly 40 percent of applicants.  During the Peer Review assessment process, HFMA contacted users of the SIS Rules-Based Charging (RBC) solution to garner their direct feedback regarding the usability and effectiveness of the solution, as well as the quality of service provided by SIS support staff.  Respondents indicated the following:

• 100% indicated that the product has resulted in enhanced productivity and accurate data.
• 100% indicated that they received good service from both technical support staff and sales representatives.
• 100% indicated that they would recommend the product to colleagues.

The perioperative department is the financial engine of the hospital; ensuring charges are complete, accurate and on time every time is critical to optimizing revue that can benefit the entire hospital organization.  SIS RBC does this by capturing charge information as an automatic by-product of the clinical documentation process and submits it electronically to the billing department. In addition to freeing up valuable time for clinicians, this tool significantly improves reimbursements by eliminating missed charges and late penalties, and ensuring charges are documented in the manner that results in the highest possible reimbursements.

HFMA respondents said that SIS RBC helps them with "efficiency, accuracy and compliance" and touted the solution's "versatility" saying that it is "very flexible to adapt to our facility".  Others surveyed indicated that the system is beneficial because it "eases training" and "removes decision making from clerical staff", ensuring "consistent charging" that results in "no errors from manual entry of charges".  Another benefit provided by respondents was the rich reporting functionality, which enabled them "to generate reports with detailed data".

During a time when hospitals need it most, many are finding that implementing SIS RBC can result in rapid return on investment and financial turnarounds for the entire enterprise. One SIS client reported a revenue capture increase of over 30% after only one month using the solution.  It is examples like this that confirm the findings of the HFMA Peer Review Panel.
