Los Angeles Association of Health Underwriters announces its annual Health Insurance Awareness Week.  This week is set aside to perform outreach to the community in the form of health awareness and to the importance of the role of the health insurance agent.

The key component of LAAHU's celebration this year will be joining forces with Young & Healthy's annual Mobile Dental Clinic taking place from February 19th through 25th, 2010 at Washington Elementary School, 1520 N. Raymond Avenue in Pasadena.

Young & Healthy is a health care program that provides free medical, dental, psychological and case-management services to low-income, uninsured children in the schools, day care centers and homeless shelters in the greater Pasadena community. Health services are provided by volunteer physicians, dentists, therapists, optometrists and other health care professionals. Young & Healthy is based on the conviction that it is the right of every child to have access to quality health care regardless of income levels and that early health care is an investment in the future of the community.

Working with USC Dentistry students and partner organizations such as LAAHU, Young & Healthy's mobile clinic works out of four converted RVs, equipped with dental chairs and a full array of dental equipment.

Children being served by the clinic receive x-rays and a plan of treatment for the week, all under the supervision of licensed pediatric and general dentists. Enabling children to have cavity-free sparkling, white teeth, is more than a one week project. A comprehensive Pre-K dental program includes ongoing free care provided by 42 volunteer dentists along with a prevention and parent education program

LAAHU's partnership with Young & Healthy over the years has not only provided financial contributions but volunteer time at a variety of its events throughout the year.

This year's Dental Clinic is even more critical to many of these children as recent funding cuts for Medicare dental services have hit many California residents very hard who have no ability to pay for these services out of pocket even at discounted rates.

LAAHU's agents and brokers know first hand the importance of having access to this kind of healthcare along with health insurance coverage and are working diligently every day to offer their business and individual clients the best coverage within their budget.
