The 8th Go4Europe conference, held on March 15, 2010 in the Tel Aviv Hilton, will include a panel focusing on "Innovation for Pharma and Access to Finance for Biotech." This panel will be moderated by Dr. Laurent Choppe, Managing Partner of Cukierman & Co. Life Sciences, and its members will include Dr. Benoît Dubuis, Chairman of BioAlps & Managing Director of Eclosion; Mr. Jasper Bos, Director of Merck-Serono Venture; Mr. Marc Princen, President EEMEA of Merck & Co.; and Dr. Dominique Costantini, CEO of BioAlliance Pharma. The panel will focus on the situation of the large pharmaceutical companies and discuss the current changes in the biotech industry, as expressed in the financing environment and the saturation of early stage programs.

“Innovation for Pharma and Access to Finance for Biotech.”

The issues that will be discussed will include, among others: the increased commercial barriers for new drugs; the saturation of early stage sellers at a time when the market for sellers is brutal; the need to return to innovation, despite the difficulty in securing the required capital; the conditions that force partnering at an earlier stage than would normally be desired; the evaluation that pharmaceutical companies will return to the early stage market out of necessity, with the need to feed early pipelines from external sources; and the need for biotech companies to return to its core competency: innovative ideas, exploratory development and delivery of clinically and commercially relevant value proposition, and therefore an attractive program to potential partners.
