Protectus Medical Devices, Inc. (OTCQB: PTMD) has retained TransMedia Group to publicize the first automatic, self-sheathing syringe designed to eliminate accidental needle stick injuries that claim the lives of medical professionals and force the industry to spend billions of dollars testing and treating victims for blood borne diseases.

JP Hervis, Director of Public Relations at TransMedia (www.transmediagroup.com), said the firm whose specialty is launching healthcare innovations, will present the Protectus Automatic Sheathing Hypodermic Syringe as the "gold standard for hypodermic safety syringes" and the first one modeled after and expressly designed in complete accordance with OSHA standards, as well as key features espoused by users.

"After watching TransMedia's publicity catapult companies with innovative products from penny stocks onto major exchanges, we felt it would be the ideal firm to announce our breakthrough in syringe safety, the Protectus Automatic, Self-Sheathing Safety Syringe," said Dr. John Salstrom, President and CEO of Protectus Medical Devices, Inc.

According to Hervis, TransMedia's PR campaign will present the Protectus Automatic Safety Syringe as the only one designed to meet all aspects of "Self-Sheathing" mandated by Federal Law designed to protect healthcare workers who are often pricked, scraped or injected by a needle before or after it has been injected and withdrawn from patients and therefore potentially carrying infectious blood borne microorganisms.

"The Protectus Safety Syringe's spring-action sheath automatically covers the needle if the user ever loses control of the device," Hervis said. "The device has a user-friendly slide collar lock allowing the syringe to be used like any standard syringe, requiring little special training," he added.

The Company, managed and operated by pioneers in the development of safe and effective medical devices, has received 510(k) permission from the US FDA to manufacture and market its patented safety syringe in the U.S.  Federal legislation requiring healthcare employers to supply 'the best available safety devices,' similar to a California law mandating "Self-Sheathing Needles," was signed into law in the U.S. effective April 2001.  Now, with the introduction of the Protectus safety syringe, hospitals and healthcare institutions can become fully compliant with this federal legislation.
