e-MDs, an industry leader in the development and implementation of electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) solutions, announced they have been chosen for the IFMC's Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center (HITREC) Preferred Vendor List. The list represents the best products designed to help smaller practices and clinics achieve meaningful use of EHRs.

e-MDs was identified through a four-month vetting process conducted by the IFMC HITREC and is one of six named vendors that will facilitate adoption and implementation of certified EHR technology over the next two years.  e-MDs scored well regarding functionality, pricing and a live demonstration analysis and was also recognized for its ability to aide in the reception of incentive payments for meaningful use that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will begin providing in 2011. Iowa practices and clinics choosing to participate and implement an EHR will receive technical support and consultation from the IFMC HITREC.

e-MDs has participated in several HITREC programs across the country and has been selected as a preferred vendor in several states.

"e-MDs is pleased to be a participant in Iowa's HITREC program.  We are looking forward to working closely with IFMC and supporting their efforts to help primary care providers in Iowa become meaningful users of EHR technology," said Dr. Michael Stearns, CEO of e-MDs.  "Meaningful use of EHRs will significantly benefit patient care in Iowa and other states.  We were very impressed by the leadership of the IFMC management team and their commitment to excellence."

Over 1,000 physicians, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners will participate in IFMC's program encouraging greater use and adoption of health IT.  "IFMC strives to improve the quality and cost-effectiveness of health care," said Jeff Chungath, IFMC CEO.  "Our partnerships with preferred vendors, like e-MDs, enable us to affect greater change across Iowa."
