Canadian Red Cross announces new donation option for Pakistan's relief operations

The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce a new option for donors to contribute to relief operations in Pakistan.  As of today, Canadians can donate to the Red Cross via text messaging.  Donors interested in this option must simply text "redcross" to 30333 and a one-time donation of $5 for the Pakistan Floods 2010 fund will be added to their mobile phone bill. 

The charge will be posted once the donor responds to a confirmation text. Text messaging donations are available in $5 increments.

The Canadian Red Cross continues to encourage Canadians to give generously as the situation in Pakistan continues to require their support.

"With 20 million people affected and no end in sight to the persistent monsoon rains, millions of people are in need of emergency humanitarian assistance," says Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross.  "The time to act is now, this disaster is of unimaginable proportions and we are in urgent need of support ."

Canadians are encouraged to donate to the Canadian Red Cross Pakistan Floods 2010 fund. Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca, by calling toll free 1-800-418-1111, by sending the text message "redcross" to 30333 to make a one-time donation of $5, or at any Red Cross office.
