Intermountain Healthcare chooses Optilink software to enhance nursing productivity management

NewsGuard 100/100 Score
Intermountain Healthcare, one of the nation's most progressive health systems in leveraging technology to improve care delivery, has chosen OptiLink® to enhance nursing productivity management across its health system. OptiLink is a software solution from The Advisory Board Company that captures patient acuity and determines staffing demand.

The OptiLink solution will provide Intermountain with improved visibility into its nursing operations, enabling the 23-hospital system to staff more accurately through real-time, acuity-adjusted data.

"Intermountain Healthcare is committed to giving our bedside nurses a voice in our staffing," said Nancy Nowak, vice president and chief nursing officer for Intermountain.  "By better understanding the acuity of our patients and the needs of our staff, we can better serve our patients.  OptiLink will help us do that.  Further, its design and ease of use support our objective to spend more productive time with our patients and less on electronic entry."

Intermountain has determined that with a system-wide acuity tool they can engage their workforce holistically to optimize patient care.  Intermountain plans to leverage OptiLink's extensive reporting and analytics to manage nursing workload at all levels of the organization – from an enterprise view of acuity and patient demand to individual nursing assignments on units.

"Working with a national cohort of more than 175 hospitals, the Advisory Board has identified best practices for optimizing skill mix, tracking unit census, establishing alerts for variances in care, and sharing performance data with staff," said Martin Coulter, General Manager of The Advisory Board Company's Business Intelligence and Software Solutions Division. "We look forward to combining our research and expertise with Intermountain Healthcare's experience in the health care domain to drive the continued evolution of our products and services."
