Biomatrica launches DNAgard Blood and DNAstable Blood sample stabilization products

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

Biomatrica Inc., the leader in room temperature biological sample stabilization, today announced the release of DNAgard® Blood and DNAstable® Blood.

DNAgard® Blood is a new addition to the "Gard" product line for the stabilization and shipping of whole blood at ambient temperatures. The DNAgard® Blood product is based on a completely novel stabilization chemistry (patent pending) and expands Biomatrica's core technology to the stabilization of patient blood samples (up to 10ml) to be used for genetic analysis. DNAgard® Blood is designed to support the pre-analytics phase (sample collection and shipping) of biomedical research, biobanking & biorepositories, forensics as well as the fast growing molecular diagnostic markets.

With the release of DNAgard Blood, whole blood samples (from 1 microliter to 10 milliliters) can be conveniently shipped and/or stored in a liquid format for 3 months at ambient room temperature prior to DNA extraction. This represents the longest storage time point for an ambient condition stabilization of whole blood DNA on the market. In addition, shipping temperatures of blood samples stabilized by DNAgard Blood can range up to 45degC without any impact on the DNA quality or yield.

"DNAgard Blood provides the longest room temperature preservation of DNA in whole blood," said Rolf Muller, Ph.D., Biomatrica's Chief Scientific Officer and co-founder. "Researchers can now easily, safely and cost effectively transport large volumes of blood samples from point of care collection sites to the lab for subsequent analysis without risk of sample quality diminishing. Room temperature based biostability reagents offer a very economical, eco-friendly solution to biological sample preservation, transport and storage, thereby offering a paradigm shift from traditional cold-freezing methods."

DNAgard Blood will begin shipping to customers starting on Sept 30, 2010.

DNAstable® Blood provides long-term stabilization and storage for unextracted DNA in whole blood or buffy coat samples at ambient room temperature. After long-term storage, high yield and quality DNA can be extracted and the purified sample is ready to use for all downstream analysis such as genotyping and whole genome DNA sequencing. The product is offered as a dry matrix formulation in tubes, 48-well plates, or custom formats.
