Canon Communications today announced the formation of a comprehensive program to assist designers, developers, and engineering managers involved in the design of electronics-based medical devices. The DesignMED conference and exposition is a collaborative project between the company's Medical Device Group-Medical Electronics Design (MED), EDN, and MD+DI-and its Event Division. The goal of DesignMED is to provide opportunities for the exchange of ideas related to electronics-based medical devices, with resources now available online at www.MedicalElectronicsDesign.com.

The DesignMED program kicks off this month with an on-line compendium of design articles, products reviews/write-ups/listings, e-newsletters, webcasts, blogs, video tutorials, and white papers. The program will launch with a dedicated medical electronics online community on the Medical Electronics Design Web site (www.MedicalElectronicsDesign.com).

DesignMED provides comprehensive information about the emerging electronics technologies and tools that will enable designers of next-generation medical electronics to produce smaller, more agile, lower power, and accurate devices. It culminates with a live face-to-face event in California, held February 8-10, 2011, in the Anaheim Convention Center. The live portion of DesignMED is being held in conjunction with Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) West, the largest trade show in North America focusing upon advances in materials, components, electronics, machinery, systems and services for the design and manufacture of the full range of medical products.

The conference portion at DesignMED consists of roughly 30 sessions over three days, which fit into the following seven tracks:

  • Imaging
  • Diagnostics and Monitoring
  • Implantable Devices
  • Personal and Home Healthcare
  • Wireless/Networking
  • Human-Computer Interfaces (HCI)
  • Device Safety and Security

Sponsors that have already committed to DesignMED include Actel, Analog Devices, Freescale, Texas Instruments, Underwriters Laboratories, and Wind River.
