Baxa announces 2011 dates for courses at STAR Center training facility

Baxa Corporation, a leading provider of medical devices and systems that automate pharmacy operations, today announced the 2011 dates for its STAR (Skills Training, Academics and Resources) Center.  Located at the Baxa global headquarters in Englewood CO, the STAR Center furthers best practice in health-system pharmacy operations.  The ACPE-accredited 2011 curriculum offers participants hands-on training in a state-of-the-art cleanroom and pharmacy training facility.

2011 marks the third consecutive year that Baxa has partnered with USP to provide training in aseptic compounding activities at the STAR Center facility.  Professionals in the USP Council of Experts, Sterile Compounding Committee and other industry-leading faculty participate as instructors for the Aseptic Processing and Compliance Tools for USP 797 course.  

The STAR Center will offer the following courses in 2011:  

Aseptic Processing and Compliance Tools for USP 797

This two-and-a-half day training program benefiting pharmacy and IV managers covers facility and environmental requirements for compounding sterile products in compliance with USP 797.  Upon completion of the program, participants earn 21 hours of CE credits including one hour of law credit or 2.1 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).  The cost of attendance is $1,875 and the course will be offered three times: March 8-10; May 17-19; and Sept. 20-22, 2011.

Safe Handling and Preparation of Cytotoxic and Other Hazardous Drugs

Designed to educate pharmacists, technicians, nurses, nurse managers and physicians regarding best practices of safely preparing and handling hazardous drugs, this ten-hour course will be held three times in 2011.  Topics covered include engineering controls required for compounding hazardous drugs, proper use of closed-system drug transfer devices (CSDTDs), procedures for handling hazardous drug spills, hazardous waste containment and disposal, and regulatory compliance.  This program is approved for continuing education credits.  Visit the course page for specifics by attendee classification.  The cost of attendance is $995 and the course will be offered March 11; May 20; and Sept. 23, 2011.
