The pharmaceutical industry is on the verge of a major victory as the lame-duck congressional session winds down. An effort to severely restrict pharmaceutical industry deals from delaying the entry to the market of low-cost generic drugs appears likely to die in the lame-duck. That could kill the legislation for some time, since a Republican House is seen as unlikely to support the measure (Millman, 12/12).
CQ HealthBeat: Physicians Ask CMS To Pay Up On Medicare Reimbursements
Physicians from the American Medical Association and 57 national medical specialty groups are calling on government officials to act soon on paying providers $200 million in Medicare physician reimbursements owed for 2010. The money was included in legislation (HR 4994) to postpone for a year scheduled reductions in Medicare physician payments. The House cleared the bill on Thursday (Norman, 12/10).
