Joining a network that includes 19,000 physicians and over 80 hospitals, long-term care facilities and other healthcare organizations, Saint John's Health System and St.Vincent Jennings Hospitals are now part of the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE). The two hospitals are now connected through their participation in IHIE's DOCS4DOCS ® Service.

“St.Vincent continues to play a leadership role in the IHIE coalition and we are pleased to have their expanded participation.”

The DOCS4DOCS Service provides a single source for information such as lab results, radiology reports, transcriptions, pathology and hospital admissions reports, discharge and transfer reports from all participating Indiana hospitals, physician practices, labs and radiology centers. Results can be viewed through a web-based portal or delivered directly into an electronic medical record system. The service provides results in a consistent format, and eliminates duplication and retesting due to lost results.

Over six million clinical messages are sent each month through the DOCS4DOCS Service, which was developed by the Regenstrief Institute and is run in conjunction with IHIE. The service is provided at no cost to physicians and is supported by Indiana's hospitals, laboratories and other data sources.

The two hospitals are part of St.Vincent Health, which is a member of Ascension Health, the nation's largest not-for-profit Catholic Healthcare System. St.Vincent Health is a 20 ministry system serving 46 counties in central Indiana. St.Vincent affiliates in Carmel, Elwood, Indianapolis, Kokomo and Lafayette, Ind. are already part of IHIE.

"St.Vincent Health is once again pleased to partner with the Indiana Health Information Exchange to help support the care our patients receive," said Alan Snell, MD, chief medical informatics officer at St.Vincent Health. "Our providers have the right information at the right time to support the care they provide to our patients, while improving safety and efficiency."

"We are committed to connecting the healthcare community throughout Indiana to support the best patient care possible," said Dr. J. Marc Overhage, President and CEO of IHIE. He is also the Director of Medical Informatics at the Regenstrief Institute and Regenstrief Professor of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine. "St.Vincent continues to play a leadership role in the IHIE coalition and we are pleased to have their expanded participation."
