States weigh health law's expected positive and negative impacts

Connecticut and Minnesota consider varying reports on the positive and negative results each state may experience as a result of the health law.

Connecticut now has more health benefit mandates than nearly all other states, a consultant told a state board Thursday. And when federal health reform rolls out in just over two years, that could leave the state, not the insurers, with a bill to pay. ... Although it's not yet clear what benefits federal government will require, as many as three-quarters of the benefits that Connecticut mandates could exceed what the federal government requires (Levin Becker, 11/18).

Minnesota Public Radio: Economist Predicts Big Impact In Minn. From Health Care Reform Law
A health care economist from MIT told members of a governor's task force Thursday that the federal health care law will reduce the health insurance racial disparities in Minnesota. Jonathan Gruber presented his projections to the health insurance task force, which is charged with developing a health care exchange in Minnesota by early 2013 (Stawicki, 11/17).
