Politico Pro: Tavenner Reaching Out To Senate
Marilyn Tavenner has begun courting Senate support for her nomination as CMS administrator, despite the possibility of a backlash to President Barack Obama's recess appointments that could ensnare her appointment. Tavenner, who currently directs the agency on an acting basis, submitted documents to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and ranking member Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) in early January, according to Hill aides. She also made courtesy calls to the two in late December, according to sources on and off the Hill with knowledge of the meetings (Feder, 1/18).
