Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, medical and technical information products and services, today announced that, together with the Geological Society of
London, it has won the award for best Education/Industry Partnership at the 2012 Getenergy awards ceremony.
Celebrating excellence in education and training in the upstream oil and gas industry, the Getenergy awards help to validate the significance and sustainable quality of work that benefits the wider oil and gas energy industry. The Education / Industry Partnership award, determined by over 11,000 individual votes on Getenergy's website, recognizes the success of Elsevier and the Geological Society of London's collaboration in developing a new module for Elsevier's Geofacets research tool. The module adds over 48,000 maps (70% of which are available for download as.geotiffs) sourced from 11 journals from the Geological Society of London's prestigious Lyell Collection.
"This award is a fantastic example of how joint efforts, such as ours with Elsevier, are being recognized for the success they can bring," said Jonathan Craig, Chairman of the Geological Society's Petroleum Group. "By integrating the rich geological information available in the Lyell Collection with the easy to search academic information already available on Geofacets, the oil and gas industry can now have access to a huge range of information at the tips of its fingers, making upstream exploration a more efficient and profitable process. The fact that this award was determined by public voting helps make it clear that the end users themselves recognize the benefits that our collaboration provides them."
