Leading events organiser, UBM Live, announced the finalists of the CPhI Pharma Awards. Formerly known as the Innovation Awards, the rebranded CPhI Pharma Awards feature a gold, silver and bronze winner for the returning Best Pharma Innovation award. Two further awards focus on sustainability including the newly introduced Best Sustainable Packaging and the return of the Best Sustainable Stand Design at the Award Ceremony taking place on 9th October 2012 at the Feria de Madrid in Spain.

The Best Innovation category recognises innovations that are viable on a commercial scale. The category was expanded for 2012 to encourage entries across the formulation, drug delivery, chemical manufacturing of APIs and intermediates, and biomanufacturing of biopharmaceuticals and intermediates sectors. The finalists for the award include Merck Millipore's bimodal silica used as a drug delivery platform; Linhardt's MULTIFLEX collapsible tube technology; Chongqing Carelife Pharm. Co.'s Alprostadil Dried Emulsion for Injection; Haemopharm Healthcare s.r.l,'s NIV needle free vial closure and BioClin's Multi-Oral Remin remineralisation gel for application in the oral cavity. These finalists will present their full entry to a judging panel including representatives from CU Chemie Uetikon, Pliva, and Merck Millipore on Tuesday, October 9th from 10.00 to 12.30 at stand 5F24 in Hall 5.

The inaugural finalists of the Sustainable Packaging Award are Top Clean Packaging Group for its UNICADOSE plastic vials; August Faller's Eco|Save|Pack carton packaging solution and MWV Healthcare's Shellpak Renew adherence enhancing drug packaging. The finalists will present their entries to a panel including representatives from UBM partners including Michael Nieuwesteeg, Managing Director NVC (Netherlands Packaging Centre), Daphne Allen, Editor, Packaging Digest and Pharmaceutical & Medical Packaging News and Hilary Ayshford, Managing Editor, HPCi Media, on October 9th between 10.00 and 12.00 at the InnoPack Speakers Corner located in Hall 10 at Stand 10F72.

"Sustainability has been a key driver of our business ethos at UBM Live for quite some time. As such, we want to ensure that this commitment to sustainability is evident in not only the set up of the event, but also through our awards series, so it is fitting that two of the 2012 CPhI Pharma Award categories celebrate and encourage sustainability," commented Andrew Pert, Brand Director. "Our recent 2012 Madrid registrant survey shows that 92% of respondents rate sustainability as important to the future development of their company. Furthermore over 73% of these respondents have already built sustainability into their policy. Sustainable business is not a trend. It is a new way to do business in a responsible manner."

The Best Sustainable Stand Design category will return to recognise one exhibitor who has fully taken the UBM philosophy of minimising impact on the environment into consideration through their presence at the event. Also in line with the UBM commitment to sustainability, the Best Sustainable Packaging was added to celebrate one exhibitor which offered a specific material, machine, or supply to facilitate sustainable Pharma packaging and processes.

"We've been delighted with not only the quantity of entries but also the quality of this year's entrants," commented UBM Live Brand Director, Andrew Pert. "The level of participation really shows the value that the industry sees in these awards. We look forward to hearing each of the finalists present and to announcing the winners of each category at our Networking reception."

Admission to the finalist presentations on Tuesday, October 9th is complimentary for all visitors and exhibitors. The Gold, Silver and Bronze winners of the Best Innovation category, and the outright winner of the Sustainable Packaging Award and sustainable Stand Design award, will be announced at a networking reception being held that evening from 18.00 at the North Entrance of the Feria.
