Forster Physical Therapy has been named the official physical therapy provider of the 2014 Asics LA Marathon®. www.forsterpt.com. And prior to the March 9th race, Forster Physical Therapy is offering free injury assessments to runners experiencing aches and pains while attempting to continue their preparation for the marathon. Forster cautions runners not to ignore training discomfort, because it will likely cost them at race time, "While some of the runners will get to the end still feeling good and able to finish strong and push the pace for the last miles, a full 50% of the field will be suffering and they will be shuffling, walking and limping as they inch their way to the finish line."
But it doesn't have to be that way. Although more than 50% of the runners in this year's LA Marathon® will be attempting this distance for the first time, Forster says it is not as difficult as most people think to develop the fitness needed to run the 26.2 miles. "Many people place the goal of finishing the marathon on their "bucket list" of lifetime accomplishments and expect to suffer, so there is a lot of emotion involved in the ups and downs of training. We want them to know it's easier than they think when they follow training and recovery methods proven by science. If you can run 15 miles, you can run 26.2 miles, it's a matter of working smart and it will come."
And although Forster has helped Olympic Champions like Jackie Joyner Kersee, Gail Devers and FloJo, achieve world best performances, he believes the average runner needs the most help. "We work with runners of all ages and abilities to clear up injuries, perfect running mechanics, solve pacing and nutrition issues."Our goal is to improve finishing times and increase enjoyment of the race," reports Forster.
Working with the LA Marathon® Roadrunners Training Program for the last 8 years, Forster's team of Physical Therapists and Exercise Physiologists have helped many frustrated runners get past injuries and finish the race in good form. They have seen every running injury imaginable and tackled even the most elusive roadblocks to performance. Forster's entire staff at Forster Physical Therapy and Phase IV Scientific Health and Performance Center, is dedicated to getting runners across the finish line in good form.
