National Surgical Hospitals, Inc., an owner, operator and developer of surgery centers and surgical hospitals in partnership with local physicians, today announced that it has purchased an interest in The Fairfield Surgery Center, LLC located in Fairfield, Connecticut. The purchase increases to eight the number of ambulatory surgery centers nationwide in which NSH holds an ownership interest and management role.

The Fairfield Surgery Center was developed in 1999 by the Orthopedic Specialty Group, P.C., one of the leading orthopedic groups in Connecticut. The approximately 7,000-square-foot orthopedic outpatient center contains two operating rooms and currently completes more than 1,400 cases per year.

Commenting on the announcement, David Crane, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NSH, said, "We are pleased to partner with the OSG, one of the largest orthopedic practices in southern Connecticut, with our investment in The Fairfield Surgery Center. Situated in an attractive market with favorable demographics, this center - our first in the Northeast - provides a solid platform for growth, not only in terms of physical expansion, but also because of the opportunity to grow and add higher acuity spine and orthopedic cases. We are gratified by the confidence and support shown for NSH by the physician partners at The Fairfield Surgery Center, and we look forward to supporting the mission and vision of the OSG as we work together to enhance the capabilities that we offer to this community."

Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Dante Brittis, a physician leader within OSG, said, "We welcome the opportunity to join with NSH to capitalize on the potential of The Fairfield Surgery Center. As our physicians considered the best strategic path forward for our center, we were impressed by the musculoskeletal focus and superior capabilities in operations and management offered by NSH and its reputation in the industry. Relying on the resources and expertise of NSH, we are confident that we can further enhance the quality of care we provide to patients and expand the level of service available to Fairfield and the surrounding area."
