Allscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX) has announced that Birmingham-based Children's of Alabama has extended its commitment to Allscripts Sunrise™ electronic health record (EHR) through 2023 and will leverage a suite of Allscripts open platform solutions to support its efforts to meet regulatory requirements, manage population health and improve patient outcomes.

In addition to the extension of Allscripts Sunrise, Children's will deploy Allscripts dbMotion™ health information exchange platform, population health and analytics solutions, as well as Allscripts Sunrise Ambulatory Care™ and Allscripts Sunrise Emergency Care™ solutions. The breadth of these solutions is expected to help the hospital drive proactive and responsive patient care across all settings.

"Our goal is to create a single patient record," said Mike McDevitt, Children's of Alabama's Executive Vice President/CIO of Facilities and Technology. "We feel like this partnership with Allscripts will be critical to providing the very best care possible to our patients and should help us improve efficiencies and continue to set a standard for patient care."

Children's of Alabama is one of the largest pediatric medical facilities in the U.S. and has provided specialized medical care for the region's children since 1911. Children's is the only medical center in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children and the primary site for pediatric clinical and educational programs for the University of Alabama School of Medicine.

Allscripts Sunrise acute EHR provides innovative Computerized Provider Order Entry (CPOE) and features, including integrated pharmacy, knowledge-based medication administration and a patient portal solutions. Allscripts Sunrise Ambulatory Care and Emergency Care augment Sunrise Acute Care to effectively manage the complex medical needs of patients who require treatment in multiple settings, including critical care.

Another key part of Children's efforts is Allscripts dbMotion, which integrates discrete patient data from diverse care settings and health information technology systems into a single patient record and into the provider workflow, in real-time and at the point-of-care.

"Allscripts is honored to be selected to help Children's of Alabama continue to deliver its extraordinary mission of care," said Paul M. Black, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. "Children's of Alabama continues to be a model for similar organizations with unfailing commitment to innovation, interoperability and connectivity and belief in the power of the open platform to transform patient care."
