The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) has honoured a prominent Monash scientist and Dean for his outstanding contribution to pharmaceutical sciences.
FIP is a global federation of national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists and represents over three million practitioners and scientists around the world.
Professor Bill Charman, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MIPS) was heralded for his significant contribution to the development of the pharmaceutical sciences around the world and its positive impact on global health.
He was awarded the FIP Lifetime Achievement Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences, which is awarded to an individual once every two years.
The announcement and presentation to Professor Charman was made at the opening ceremony of the World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Bangkok, Thailand, which takes place from 31 August to 4 September.
Professor Charman said he was honoured to be recognised for his work.
"This award reflects the wonderful opportunities I have had in my career, the terrific mentors that have guided me, and the brilliant colleagues and students I have had the great fortune to work with," he said.
"As a pharmacist and a pharmaceutical scientist, I consider the opportunity to integrate the learnings and knowledge from these inter-dependent fields as the inspiring basis to strive for real-world impact in medicine design and patient care," Professor Charman said.
Taking a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach, Professor Charman's research career has addressed major issues in drug discovery, drug delivery and the pharmaceutical sciences. He has published more than 350 scientific papers and communications and has received multiple Australian and international research and professional awards.
