Hospitals demand TRU-D SmartUVC device to be added to Ebola protocols

Following the tragic infections of two hospital staff and subsequent tracking of hundreds of people related to Ebola, hospitals around the country are requiring TRU-D SmartUVC, a portable automated UVC disinfection robot which accurately measures required dosage, be added to Ebola protocols.

As major hospitals like O'Connor Hospital in San Jose, California; San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, New Mexico; and Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina, prepare their health care staff to handle Ebola patients, the hospitals' nursing and housekeeping teams are deploying TRU-D to disinfect any area of the hospital that could potentially be exposed to the virus. TRU-D's unique and patented ability to measure dose means 100 percent of the room has been disinfected.

"TRU-D is cream of the crop," said Suzanne Cistulli, director of infection prevention and control for O'Connor Hospital. "We want to protect our patients and are truly fortunate to have TRU-D at this crucial time. Our employees feel safer knowing we have her because of the Ebola situation."

TRU-D's Sensor360 technology makes it the only device for which effective dosage claims can be validated. Using other UV systems, such as pulse light that does not measure UVC dose, results in only a portion of the room being disinfected at best. Contamination resulting from a less than thoroughly disinfected room can result in fatal error.

"Taking every possible precaution when handling an Ebola case is imperative," said Chuck Dunn, president of TRU-D LLC. "As serious as this virus is, incorporating TRU-D, which measures dose, is a major game changer for hospitals."

TRU-D is assisting hospitals in and outside of the U.S. in the war against Ebola. After deploying two TRU-D robots to Liberian hospitals, the company recently participated in a panel discussion, "Mobilizing a United Corporate and Communications Response to Contain Ebola," as part of the Center for Global Health and Diplomacy's (GHD) Conference on Creating a Post-2015 Infrastructure for Development: Challenges, Successes and Suggestion for the Future. TRU-D continues to work around the clock in Liberian hospitals to disinfect a number of hospital environments, including Ebola Treatment Units, making them safer for health care workers, volunteers, patients and family members.

TRU-D SmartUVC is the device of choice for nearly all of the existing independent research on UV disinfection technology. Hundreds of TRU-Ds have been deployed to disinfect hospitals across the U.S., Canada, Europe and Africa including the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland; the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston, South Carolina; and Houston Methodist in Houston, Texas. For information and links to independent studies on TRU-D, visit www.TRU-D.com.
