Point-of-Care Partners, a leading health information technology (HIT) strategy and management consulting firm, has launched the ePrescribing State Law Capsule -- a recurring reference publication to simplify tracking of ePrescribing regulatory requirements in all 50 states and DC.

"The ePrescribing regulatory landscape continues to change rapidly, so we have evolved our service offerings to deliver what the industry, and ultimately patients, need," said Tony Schueth, CEO and Managing Partner at Point-of-Care Partners (POCP). "We are proud to introduce the Law Capsule as a complimentary resource for ePrescribing stakeholders to quickly gain a macro-level understanding of the ePrescribing regulatory landscape for both controlled and non-controlled drugs. Where a more in-depth understanding of ePrescribing regulations is needed, we offer the ePrescribing State Law Review, our premium full-service offering."

Both the ePrescribing State Law Capsule and the ePrescribing State Law Review help EHR and other IT vendors be proactive in ensuring system compliance to changing ePrescribing regulations. POCP estimates that one missed ePrescribing regulatory requirement can cost a mid-size EHR vendor nearly $70,000 in staffing and development as detailed in our True Cost of ePrescribing Regulatory Changes infographic.

"The health care industry is moving from a voluntary to a mandatory ePrescribing environment that will efficiently deliver medications to patients for both controlled and non-controlled substances," explains Schueth. "ePrescribing is safer for patients and can help eliminate prescription fraud and abuse. Our industry is clearly on a fast-track to eliminate paper prescriptions and enable a comprehensive medication history within EHRs."
