Jersey Shore has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for its Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care. The certification award recognizes the hospital's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's rigorous standards.
As part of Meridian Orthopedics, Jersey Shore's Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Program - referred to as the Joint Solution Program - has board certified surgeons, nationally certified nurses, a Magnet award winning nursing team, doctorate prepared physical and occupational therapists and managers, advanced equipment and facilities, and a dedicated joint program liaison and coordinator. The program also offers a new approach towards hip and knee replacement care that encourages patients and family members to participate in group activities, meals and other special events. Exercise and therapy is provided in a group setting, so patients can support and encourage each other on the road to recovery.
"The Joint Commission's seal of approval reaffirms patients that the highest standards and practice guidelines are being followed at Jersey Shore in the delivery of orthopedic care. The revitalized hip and knee replacement program embraces a multidisciplinary approach with a patient and family focus, and delivers the best care for our patients, close to home," says Gregory Roehrig, M.D., physician champion, Joint Solution Program at Jersey Shore.
Jersey Shore underwent an intensive on-site survey in January. A Joint Commission expert evaluated Jersey Shore for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership, protocol and medication management, and individualized plans of care. Employees and doctors were interviewed, facilities were inspected, and patient charts received thorough evaluation and scrutiny.
"In achieving Joint Commission certification, Jersey Shore has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients undergoing hip and knee replacements" says Michele Sacco, M.S., interim executive director, Certification Programs. "Certification is a voluntary process and I commend Jersey Shore for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves."
