University Hospital's trauma center staff to raise awareness of traumatic injury prevention at Missouri State Fair

Health care providers from University Hospital's Frank L. Mitchell Jr., MD, Trauma Center will attend this year's Missouri State Fair to raise awareness of traumatic injury prevention.

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 13, through Sunday, Aug. 23, staff from University Hospital will provide fairgoers educational information and tips concerning injury prevention. University Hospital's booth is located in the MizzouCentral area of the MO-Ag Theatre, near the fair's Centennial Entrance.

"Traumatic injuries can occur anytime throughout the year," said Kassie Campbell, RN, injury prevention and trauma outreach coordinator for University Hospital's trauma center. "However, we see more of these very serious injuries during the summer months than any other time. That makes our presence at this year's state fair so important."

"Our trauma team at University Hospital is committed to helping reduce the frequency and burden of unintentional injuries," said Jeffrey Coughenour, MD, medical director of University Hospital's trauma center and the Staff for Life Helicopter Service. "Our program is not only committed to the care of nearly 1,200 trauma patients each year, but also community outreach and education to address specific injury concerns and preventive measures."
