The Learning Clinic to supply VitalPAC clinical solutions to Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust

NewsGuard 100/100 Score

The Learning Clinic has won a further 5-year contract with Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust to supply a wide range of VitalPAC clinical solutions across the 1,200 bed Trust. The contract was won following a full procurement against a number of competitors.

This is a massive vote of confidence in VitalPAC. Portsmouth worked very closely with The Learning Clinic to develop VitalPAC Nurse and has been using the electronic observations software trust wide since 2008. Today the system is used by 1000 nurses who take on average 3,500 sets of patient observations each day in 47 wards.

The new contract is for significant new VitalPAC products and functionality, including VitalPAC Doctor, launched in July this year, and fluid management. VitalPAC Doctor is used by doctors and senior nurses, providing them with mobile access to a pool of information about the patient in real time, ensuring continuity of care across groups of clinicians and across episodes of care.

In addition to being used at the bedside, VitalPAC Nurse is a key contributor to performance improvement across the Trust. Evidence in September’s BMJ’s Quality and Safety journal found that Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust has virtually eliminated Norovirus outbreaks as a result of using VitalPAC ‘Infection Prevention and Control (IPC)’ system to flag possible infections and putting in place rapid and robust control processes.

Simon Holmes, Medical Director at Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust said:

We were the first Trust to use the VitalPAC system and today’s announcement shows that, as far as we are concerned, there is no going back. Over the past ten years, VitalPAC has helped us improve care in many ways, and our staff love it. We are delighted that with the roll out of VitalPAC Doctor, the next five years will see our services become even safer, more personal and efficient. This is a great news for staff and patients alike.

Helen Glenister, Chief Operating Officer of The Learning Clinic said:

We are hugely proud that Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust have taken the decision to continue the partnership with the Learning Clinic. It is especially pleasing because the Trust have taken the decision based on their experience of using VitalPAC Nurse and the results which we have delivered for them over the past 10 years.
