Harmony Health Plan of Illinois, Inc., a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG), will give $10,000 to Kidz Korna to help make the holidays special for 10,000 low-income children in Chicago's Englewood community.

The contribution helped the nonprofit with its annual toy giveaway, providing much needed assistance for area families.

"For 20 years, we've been taking at-risk youth from the corners to opportunities, producing successful outcomes," said Delece Williams, director of Kidz Korna. "We produce the catalyst for changing the atmosphere, creating prevention and alternatives to violence and abuse. The theme for this year's 10th anniversary is 'A Citywide Call to action to help Cure Violence.' No longer are kids hanging out on corners, but they are changing them. To date, we have served over 25,000 needy families."

"At Harmony, our mission is to help our members live better and healthier lives – and that often means reaching out to community groups like Kidz Korna to help strengthen the neighborhoods where our members live," said Miguel Torres, Harmony's senior director of sales and marketing.

"Harmony recognizes the importance of supporting groups like Kidz Korna to help strengthen the social safety net," said Dr. Robert Hilliard, Jr., state president, Harmony Health Plan. "Kidz Korna offers programs that seek to prevent violence and child abuse, and provides opportunities and resources to improve children's lives so they can grow up to be successful and are in a position to give back to their communities."

This year's annual toy giveaway includes a variety of events, including the Christmas Choir Musical Extravaganza, youth entertainment, celebrity guests, health screenings and community resource information. It will be broadcast on Christmas Eve on CAN-TV. Check local listings for program times.

As of Sept. 30, 2015, WellCare and Harmony serve approximately 173,000 Medicaid members, 15,000 Medicare Advantage plan members and 33,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in Illinois.
